William Eggleston 3, Founder & CEO
The current broad portfolio of WEGG3 is rooted in William's years of experience in factory automation. Going back to 1992 William programmed in DOS the CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) milling machinery that cut wood for his speakers. As the scale and complexity of his company’s milling equipment grew, so did William’s ever expanding experience in axis based automation.
Currently, WEGG3 designs and develops complete energy solutions for commercial-scale applications.
William Eggleston has been a pioneering designer and entrepreneur since 1992. He founded his first high-end loudspeaker company in Memphis at the age of 26. His Andra loudspeaker won Stereophile’s coveted Product of the Year award in 1997. In 2000 he started WEGG3 originally as a loudspeaker company. At that time, he introduced the Lunare series of speakers whose purpose was to “simply get out of the way and provide real emotional insight into the source.” With the success of this line he has been described as "one of the most innovative and original speaker designers of his generation."
William’s notion that hardware needs to be robust, yet seemingly invisible to the user has defined WEGG3’s vision throughout it’s many areas of growth. In 2005 WEGG3 started developing its own building automation solutions. As chief architect, William turned immediately to the automation hardware and software that was familiar to his factory-based operations. His idea was a solution that would be affordable, easy to use and reliable. He has described iQ as the ‘Viking Stove’ of control systems, as it brings industrial grade software and hardware to the residential and commercial automation market. (Viking was one of the first companies to take commercial class elements and put them into a consumer setting.) Similarly, WEGG3 iQ Control Systems are built with hardware and software normally utilized in factory applications.
By 2007 the WEGG3 iQ building automation platform was being implemented into WEGG3 Project Services sites. In early 2008 WEGG3 began exploring green applications for the iQ automation platform.
Today, William and his team have expanded WEGG3’s portfolio to home and commercial automation, with complete solutions that span from lighting and A/V control to energy efficiency, tracking, reporting and optimizing.
William was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He attended Boston University and Georgetown University. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife Daniela and his two boys, William and Nicholas. He is an avid mountain biker and has written three screenplays.
