The bass section of the LUNARE 3 consists of two very high excursion 10 inch woofers per cabinet covering the frequency range from 100 Hz and below. The drivers have an aluminum cone with a large rubber surround allowing for a maximum peak to peak excursion capability of 2 inches with almost 1.75 inches of that being linear. It has a 2 inch diameter 4 layer voice coil and a 10.5 inch diameter die cast frame. The overall weight of the driver is 25 pounds. Two of these drivers with there substantial excursion capabilities allow each cabinet to produce low frequency SPLs (anechoic with no room gain) of 114 dB at 30 Hz and above. In a normal situation where there is a stereo pair of the Lunare speakers another 6 dB can be added to these numbers for the overall SPL developed in the listening enviroment.

The cabinet of the LUNARE 3 is constructed of 1.0 inch mdf with substantial vertical and horizontal bracing throughout. The top of the cabinet is in the shape of a curve. This produces the highly desirable result of the top wall being a non-parallel surface which suppresses internal acoustic modes within the cabinet. The midrange drivers and tweeters each have their own separate enclosures isolating them from the acoustic energy of the woofers. Heavy walled cylindrical PVC tubes are used for the midrange cavities and the woofers utilize the rest of the cabinet for their enclosure. A long rectangular port vents out the lower rear of the loudspeakers. The substantial surface area of the port is required to guarantee that there is no chuffing or wind noise with the substantial amounts of air movement the 10 inch woofers with their 2 inch maximum excursion are capable of producing. The port tunes the box to a resonant frequency of 29 Hz giving the Lunare a –3 dB frequency of 28 Hz, with no room gain included.

Front and back panels are one-half inch machined aluminum. Special finish options are available for both the cabinet and the metal. For ease of uncrating and placement, the Lunare 3 is shipped with casters attached to the 1.5 inch machined base assembly. These are removeable for replacement with leveling spikes if desired.
